Other,

I tend to buy artbooks which contain conceptual artwork, but not explicitly about a single theme.

I just love to look at them and make up stories about them, it helps me create meaning about their use of technical aspects of their art. Above all I like the fact that they contain material that boosts my motivation to actually DO stuff.

- You could for instance think about conceptual environments for a new game (which has several turningpoints in the story by which it's theme changes): Think about Tomb raider (eidos/Crystal Dynamics), or any of the games created by Blizzard or Bioware(<3)

So.. to sum it up; I'd go for artbooks with a certain style that make me feel the above-stated! or something... Maybe I should have selected option #2 :/

I like the theme one too. It's easier to emcompass all the other options by doing it as a theme. You could use original characters, or fanart characters, or sketches or anything. D:

;D so true, and I should say sketches are alright as long as they're detailed and mixed in nicely. Oh and myself...I wouldn't likely buy an art book that was more than...a third fanart, but I wouldn't mind a bit mixed in xD
